They quit because of how it feels to learn it.
At some point, it starts to feel frustrating. Things aren't clicking. You feel like you're messing up more than you're improving. And once it starts to feel like that, people stop coming back.
For kids, it turns into practice battles.
For adults, it turns into hesitation… or not starting at all.
And a lot of that comes from how lessons are set up. You're being watched. Corrected constantly. Feeling like you're getting it wrong before you've had a chance to figure it out.
Most people don't quit piano because they can't learn it.
If you’re looking for piano lessons near Massapequa, this isn’t the traditional, sit-in-the-spotlight format.
So this is a different one. Here you can actually settle in and learn. You can think. You can try things more than once. You can hit the wrong note, and nobody hears it but you. And that one shift changes everything.
I've been a piano instructor long enough to see the pattern...
It's almost never the student. It's the setup.
Time to settle in, focus, and actually make progress. That’s real time, not a rushed half-hour squeezed in after a long day at Berner Middle School.
Up to five students. Each at their own keyboard with headphones. No spotlight. No audience. You get the privacy to make mistakes. You're working at your own pace. And when you need help, that's when I step in.
The songs your kid blasts on the ride home from Berner or a late practice at Burns Park. The ones they’ve been dying to play. That makes practice feel a lot less like a chore.
Giants games. Spring concerts. A busy week at work. If you miss a lesson, you'll get guidance so you can keep moving forward.
Here's the door, the room, and the chair you'll be sitting in while they play.
Located in Wantagh, right off Sunrise Highway near the Wantagh State Parkway. Head west on Sunrise or Merrick Road and you’re here. It’s a faster trip than trying to find parking in Massapequa Village Center.
Easy access from:
Biltmore Shores, Nassau Shores, Harbor Green, Bar Harbour, and anywhere south of Merrick Road. It’s just as easy coming down Hicksville Road or Broadway from the north side of town.
Siblings can come at the same time, each working at their own level. One at McKenna Elementary, one at Berner Middle. Same drive. Same hour.
Lessons have to fit into life, or they don’t last. Evening and weekend slots work around the Massapequa School District calendar, sports seasons, and work.
Most people don’t need more discipline. They need a setup that works. Here, you’re given space before you’re corrected. You’re not trying to keep up with anyone else.
A good piano instructor knows when to step in and when to step back. Help is there when you need it, not constantly interrupting you.
It’s the same for a third grader from McKenna Elementary and for a parent who finally has a free evening after the Unqua Road pickup line.
It feels manageable. So people keep coming back. And that’s when real progress happens.
Most people don't need more discipline.
They need a setup that works.

...the lab lessons are a great way to help students like my son, who may feel nervous or on the spot.
- Michelle L. adult musician
- Mica A., returned after 20+ yrs
I have taken 1 on 1 lessons when I was a child (at least 20 years ago) for 6 months and remember feeling so much anxiety going every week that I had quit then. Not at Chatlabash! You take lessons in a lab setting with 3-4 other students simultaneously all with headphones and you go at your own pace.

...when he learns a new song and can't wait to play it for us when he gets home.
- Alan A., parent of two, Wantagh
Sara is a great teacher who my two girls have enjoyed working with for nearly 4 years now. I can definitely see more interest on their parts with respect to playing piano. They practice what's assigned but also get to choose...

Both my daughters are able to read notes and pick up songs and tunes on their own.

Did he think I could learn THE PIANO at 56 YEARS OLD???!!! We didn't even own a piano! With much apprehension, I went to the introductory lesson and met Sara. … So here I am, almost two months in, and I am loving the piano! … I practice EVERY DAY.
- Tara N., dreamed big
I always dreamed of learning piano and took lessons as a kid but hated it so much that I quit. Big regret. I finally decided to give it a second chance, it’s been a wonderful few months.

I was skeptical of Sarah’s “lab lesson” format. I grew up taking private lessons for multiple instruments & it was always 1 on 1 w/ the instructor sitting next to you. … After trying different schools I chose lessons with Sarah. … the lab lessons actually WORK.
