Unofficially, the least intimidating studio on the Island.
You don't need talent to start here. You just need to sit down. Most people love piano. They just hate piano lessons. So I built mine differently.

If you quit piano once, or watched your kid drift away, you were never the problem. Almost anyone can play. What stops people isn't talent; it's the fear of looking foolish.
A teacher watching every mistake. A room full of eyes. Take that away, and you relax, you stick with it, you get good without noticing.
When they go beige, we go hot pink.
Never played, or haven't in twenty years. You won't be the only one starting late, and you won't spend six months on exercises before you play a whole song you actually know.

How Kids' Lessons Work
Nothing gets forced. Nobody gets put on the spot. That's usually why they keep showing up.
02
Nobody gets taught Bach if they want Billie Eilish. Their own keyboard and headphones, taught one at a time even with others in the room. Recitals with no guests, adults included. Real songs in the first few months, and still playing years later.

I WASN'T ALWAYS THIS GOOD
But here's what actually makes me good at this: I wanted to quit. More than once.
I know exactly what it feels like to sit there convinced your hands will never cooperate. So I rebuilt the way I teach around that feeling: less pressure, more privacy, zero "play for the teacher" panic. Now nervous beginners turn into people who love to play. (Also: I bake, I'm scary good at escape rooms, and yes, I will judge your ice cream order.) Want the whole story?
Prepare to Actually Like Your Piano Teacher
I've been at the piano since I was five. My Grams would sit me on the bench beside her and play for hours. She gave me her piano, and I've barely left it since: Crane School of Music, Carnegie Hall, 20 years teaching.

You see the difference right away.
He was taking one-on-one lessons for about 7 years prior and he has excelled with Sara.

I stopped being the bad guy about practice.
Fifteen minutes most nights, and she’s usually at it before I’ve even thought to remind her.

1-on-1 lessons as a kid gave me so much anxiety, I quit.
Not at Chatalbash! You take lessons in a lab setting with headphones and you go at your own pace.

Did he really think I could learn the piano at 56 years old?
So here I am, almost two months in, and I am loving the piano! I am finally fulfilling my life-long dream!

He doesn't feel held down and he doesn't feel forced.
The lab lessons are a great way to help students like my son, who may feel nervous or on the spot.
