They quit because of how it feels to learn it.
At some point, it starts to feel frustrating. Things aren't clicking. You feel like you're messing up more than you're improving. And once it starts to feel like that, people stop coming back.
For kids, it turns into practice battles.
For adults, it turns into hesitation⦠or not starting at all.
And a lot of that comes from how lessons are set up. You're being watched. Corrected constantly. Feeling like you're getting it wrong before you've had a chance to figure it out.
Most people don't quit piano because they can't learn it.
If youβre looking for piano lessons near Bellmore, this isnβt the traditional, sit-in-the-spotlight format.
So this is a different one. Here you can actually settle in and learn. You can think. You can try things more than once. You can hit the wrong note, and nobody hears it but you. And that one shift changes everything.
I've been a piano instructor long enough to see the pattern...
It's almost never the student. It's the setup.
Time to settle in, focus, and actually make progress. Itβs a real hour, not a rushed half-hour squeezed between Grand Avenue Middle School dismissal and dinner.
Up to five students. Each at their own keyboard with headphones. No spotlight. No audience. You get the privacy to make mistakes. You're working at your own pace. And when you need help, that's when I step in.
The songs your kid blasts on the ride home from Grand Avenue Middle School or Kennedy practice. The ones youβve always wanted to learn yourself. That makes practice feel a lot less like a chore.
Giants games. Spring concerts. A busy week at work. If you miss a lesson, you'll get guidance so you can keep moving forward.
Here's the door, the room, and the chair you'll be sitting in while they play.
Located in Wantagh, right off Sunrise Highway near the Wantagh State Parkway.
Head east on Sunrise from the Bellmore train station and youβre basically here.
Easy access from:
North Bellmore, downtown Bellmore near Grand Ave, central Bellmore around Kennedy High School, and the canal neighborhoods south of Merrick Road.
Siblings can come at the same time, each working at their own level. One at Shore Road School, one at Grand Avenue Middle. Same drive. Same hour.
Lessons have to fit into life, or they donβt last. That means school, work, Kennedy and Mepham practices, and everything else on the calendar.
Most people donβt need more discipline.
They need a setup that works.
Here, youβre given space before youβre corrected.
Youβre not trying to keep up with anyone else.
And help is there when you need it, not constantly interrupting you.
Itβs the same reason a lot of teens from the Bellmore-Merrick Central High School District stick with it through high school. Nobodyβs putting them on the spot.
It feels manageable.
So people keep coming back.
And thatβs when real progress happens.
Most people don't need more discipline.
They need a setup that works.

...the lab lessons are a great way to help students like my son, who may feel nervous or on the spot.
- Michelle L. adult musician
- Mica A., returned after 20+ yrs
I have taken 1 on 1 lessons when I was a child (at least 20 years ago) for 6 months and remember feeling so much anxiety going every week that I had quit then. Not at Chatlabash! You take lessons in a lab setting with 3-4 other students simultaneously all with headphones and you go at your own pace.

...when he learns a new song and can't wait to play it for us when he gets home.
- Alan A., parent of two, Wantagh
Sara is a great teacher who my two girls have enjoyed working with for nearly 4 years now. I can definitely see more interest on their parts with respect to playing piano. They practice what's assigned but also get to choose...

Both my daughters are able to read notes and pick up songs and tunes on their own.
- Denise E., started at 56
Did he think I could learn THE PIANO at 56 YEARS OLD???!!! We didn't even own a piano! With much apprehension, I went to the introductory lesson and met Sara. β¦ So here I am, almost two months in, and I am loving the piano! β¦ I practice EVERY DAY.
- Tara N., dreamed big
I always dreamed of learning piano and took lessons as a kid but hated it so much that I quit. Big regret. I finally decided to give it a second chance, itβs been a wonderful few months.

I was skeptical of Sarahβs βlab lessonβ format. I grew up taking private lessons for multiple instruments & it was always 1 on 1 w/ the instructor sitting next to you. β¦ After trying different schools I chose lessons with Sarah. β¦ the lab lessons actually WORK.
